byrdRench ~ BY15PS – New!

As multitools go the byrdRench doesn’t resemble any other pocket tool on the market. Unlike standard multitool fare it has a full-sized knife blade that opens/closes one handed and locks open like a real pocketknife. It also comes with a pocket clip and nylon sheath so if you’re a hang-it-on-a-belt-loop person or a clip-in-my-pocket-person, you’re covered. The tool’s housing is two stainless halves that join creating slip joint pliers (with a large or small bite) on one end and an adjustable 9/16” crescent wrench on the opposite end. Both work comfortably in the hand with contoured edges so there are no pinched fingers. Separate the two halves and tucked inside is a set of four screwdriver bits including: A #2 and #3 Phillips-head as well as a #1 and #2 flat-head. The bit housing accepts any standard sized bit including Allen and Torx® wrenches to customize your tool arsenal. A rough file combination hole-starter slide into a spring set in the housing above the bits. A pivot holds the tool’s two halves together. When rotated, the pieces extend and lock into a full-length easy to grip and torque magnetized screwdriver or crescent wrench. Releasing the pivot separates the screwdriver and knife portion of the tool from the crescent wrench. This allows you to use the crescent wrench and the screwdriver/knife independently and/or simultaneously. High performance 8Cr13Mov is the blade’s steel and it comes in a plain cutting edge.

The Tasman Salt folder features a Hawkbill blade. This distinctive curved cutting tool has a claw-like tip that originated in the marine/commercial fishing industry. Cutting in and around water involves cutting line, netting and rope and it’s done quickly, often at arm’s length while pulling downward or toward you. The blade’s arcing tip holds what you’re cutting against the sharpened edge keeping it from slipping off the tip. Spyderco’s new rustproof Hawkbill blade is made with state of the art non-rusting H-1 steel.

PRESS RELEASE

C79 Assist I and Assist II ™ CLIPIT™
By Spyderco®

Spyderco named this knife after its principal job function- to Assist. The Assist is a lightweight folder made for emergency fire/rescue professionals and the well-equipped citizen, all who rely on knives to be straightforward in use and perform flawlessly. The Assist’s blade is high-carbon VG-10 stainless steel and loaded with teeth. Eighty-percent of the 3-3/8” (86mm) cutting edge is serrated with the last inch at the tip PlainEdged. Above the one-hand-open hole sits a feature called a Cobra Hood. This metal cap guides the thumb over the hole for quick opening then doubles as a textured leveraging platform for your thumb while you are cutting. A wavy pattern cut out of the top of the blade and again along the handle is for controlled rope cutting. By placing a rope in the groove (between the partially open blade and the handle) you can simply squeeze the blade shut, slicing rope in a controlled manner without fully exposing the cutting edge. The handle is lightweight black fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN) with a survival whistle built into the butt end that is shrill and high-pitched enough to be heard great distances. A reinforced wire pocket clip screws through the handle onto either side for left or right-handed use. An Assist II (C79PS) is also available with a retractable carbide-tip glass breaker in the handle and snub-nosed blade. The breaker is exposed when the closed knife is squeezed and retracts when pressure is released, keeping it out of the way till needed. Both versions are 8-3/8” (213mm) long when fully open and weigh 3.9 oz (111g).

MSRP: Assist C79PSBK2 (no carbide tip) runs $82.95 and the Assist C79PSBK (carbide tip) retails for $89.95. For more information please contact Spyderco at: 820 Spyderco Way Golden, Colorado 80403.
