The U.S. Department of Energy states that cars, trucks and heavy-duty vehicles waste more than six billion gallons of diesel fuel and gasoline each year – without even moving. In an effort to minimize vehicle idling and fuel consumption, Havis Inc. announced today the launch of IdleRight2, the next generation of the company’s idle reduction and fuel management system.

IdleRight2 minimizes idle time by monitoring the battery’s voltage while the vehicle is turned off and electronics, such as light bars, radios and computers, are still on. When the battery voltage drops to a pre-set level, the system triggers the remote starter to run the engine long enough for the battery to recharge, then turns the vehicle off again. This process significantly cuts down on the vehicle’s idle time while mission critical electronics are in use.

In 2009, the Glastonbury Police Department in Glastonbury, Conn., tested the original IdleRight system to calculate how much idle time and fuel they saved with this system. During the test, a vehicle ran for four hours with all of its emergency lights activated. Before IdleRight was installed, the vehicle idled for the entire four-hour period and wasted 2.80 gallons of fuel. With IdleRight installed, that same vehicle’s idle time dropped to just 40 minutes, using only 0.46 gallons of fuel.

Based on this example, if a department pays an average of $3.50 per gallon of gas and utilizes 100 vehicles that idle 25 percent of the time, the department could save over $445,000 per year in fuel alone with the IdleRight system.

Reducing idle time is the key to saving fuel, preventing unnecessary engine wear, and decreasing harmful emissions. According to the Ford Crown Victoria Owner’s Guide, every hour of idling is equivalent to approximately 33 miles of driving. For police cars and utility trucks that idle at emergency and construction scenes, one eight-hour shift can add 264 miles of wear and tear to each of these stationary vehicles.

This latest IdleRight system is designed to work with many popular after-market remote starters, which greatly simplified installation and allowed Havis to significantly lower the product’s price.

IdleRight2 features an LED diagnostics system that not only shows what state the unit is in, but also allows customers to quantify their savings by outputting the number of idle hours saved. This data can then be plugged into the Return on Investment (ROI) Calculator (located at http://idleright.havis.com/savings.html) to determine total savings in fuel, money, miles and maintenance.

With increasing gas prices and tighter budgets, companies and municipalities can depend on IdleRight2 to reduce fuel consumption and vehicle maintenance costs. This product greatly extends the service life of vehicles, and the simplicity of the new system makes it easy to install and use in any fleet.

In addition to the IdleRight2, Havis offers another solution to manage vehicle power and fuel consumption – ChargeGuard® Auto Shut-off Timer. ChargeGuard prevents vehicle battery drain, extends battery life, and provides complete voltage protection for expensive electronics. The device also reduces fuel costs by running equipment after the engine has been turned off.

Havis strives to develop innovative power management and idle reduction solutions to further the global green initiative and to save companies from the cost of wasted fuel and excessive vehicle wear and tear.
Havis Enhances Focus on Higher Growth Product Lines with Sale of Lighting Solutions Product Line to R-O-M

WARMINSTER, Pa. – August 8, 2011 – Havis Inc., an industry-leading manufacturer of in-vehicle mobile office solutions, announced today the sale of its Lighting Solutions product line to R-O-M Corporation. The sale presents Havis with the opportunity to enhance its focus on its four remaining product lines — Mounting Solutions, Computing Solutions, Transport Solutions and Power Management Solutions — and reaching out to new customers.

"The deal between Havis and R-O-M was a logical next step for both companies, and will provide customers with a single source for fire service products," said Joseph Bernert, CEO of Havis. "Selling the Lighting Solutions line will also allow Havis to dedicate additional resources to our core business of computer docking stations and equipment consoles, as well as our partnerships with computer and vehicle manufacturers."

While Havis proudly started with manufacturing lighting products, the company has been gaining momentum in the docking station and console lines. Therefore, a focused effort within the company is now required for future growth. Havis has recently participated in large enterprise rollouts, and is now expanding into international markets, gaining business opportunities in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Europe, the Middle East, Mexico and Canada.

Havis and R-O-M will be working closely together over the next six months to ensure a smooth transition for both customers and employees. According to the terms of the deal, the purchased Lighting Solutions include the following brands: MagnaFire®, Collins Dynamics, Kwik-Raze, Kwik-Strike and Questar. Havis will continue selling solutions from the remaining product lines to the fire, EMS and public safety markets.

"Havis Lighting Solutions products are high quality and enjoy market-leading recognition in the fire service," noted Jeff Hupke, President of R-O-M Corporation. "Likewise, R-O-M is recognized for industry-leading products. The Lighting Solutions line is a perfect fit for us. By combining these outstanding products with our roll-up doors, cargo trays, hose bed covers and LED compartment lighting, we are able to make a great company even better."

During this transition period, production and order entry will be gradually relocated to the R-O-M facility in Belton, Mo. R-O-M will honor all Havis pricing and terms through December 30, 2011. In turn, Havis is honoring all warranties and service calls during the transition, and is committed to maintaining a hassle-free experience. The Lighting Solutions Product Manager for Havis, Cameron Blain, has accepted the same position at R-O-M and will be the point person for any sales questions or issues.

Due to strong growth in the docking station and console business, Havis will be able to reallocate employees directly engaged in the lighting products line to these sectors. The company hired 17 employees in the past six months, and is continuing to expand. R-O-M will also be adding a new member to its engineering team, a customer development representative, and up to 10 production workers to manufacture, sell and support the new Lighting Solutions products.

Havis will continue supporting its online Lighting Solutions configurator and other product support data on www.havis.com until R-O-M launches its own product support. In the interim, R-O-M has created the website www.ROMLightingSolutions.com, which will provide up-to-date information during the transition.

New GPS Mapping, Laptop/MDC Wireless Transfer Capabilities And Wireless Updates For Digital Ally In-Car Video Systems

Digital Ally, which designs, manufactures and sells advanced law enforcement products, is constantly working on ways to improve their products by considering the most practical and effective use of technology possible. In that spirit, Digital Ally now adds a powerful new tool to their VideoManager software to easily track the location of video taken with their GPS enabled units.

VideoManager software will now include a mapping feature that will allow users to utilize an in-program overhead map to view routes traversed in videos along with the location of “marked” events. This user-friendly and innovative feature gives officers an easy-to-read interface for pinpointing the location of where recorded video was created. Additional in-depth interactivity allows users to view multiple routes simultaneously, highlight routes, track “current position” during playback, access detailed information for start, stop, and “marked” points, and more.

Digital Ally is also unveiling a new wireless transfer software package for laptops or MDCs. This cost-effective solution will allow officers to use a laptop or MDC to wirelessly transmit recorded evidence from their in-car video system to a secure location. Designed as an alternative to the Digital Ally WTM (Wireless Transfer Module), this new option uses technology many patrol vehicles already have to provide all the convenience and chain of custody benefits of wireless transfer.

Departments using wireless transfer to download evidence from Digital Ally systems will also soon be able to wirelessly upload firmware updates and device configurations. Administrators will now be able to instantaneously keep an entire fleet current with the latest updates, newest features and individualized device configurations without having to visit each vehicle. Digital Ally’s new laptop wireless transfer software and wireless updates, together with the newly-added support of 802.11n (“Wireless N”) technology earlier this year, makes it even easier to have a user-friendly, secure, and fast wireless transfer solution in any department.

Digital Ally provides a complete line of digital video systems for any style of vehicle, an officer worn video system & camera, digital video flashlight, thermal imaging camera, and LIDAR handheld speed enforcement gun.
Affordable Wireless Video System Improves Police Department Record through Crime Rate Decrease and Better Officer Performance

PLEASANTON, Calif., August 12, 2010 – Trapeze Networks, a Belden Brand (NYSE: BDC) and leader in enterprise wireless LAN equipment and management software, today announced Clarkston, GA, Police Department (CPD) has deployed a new wireless infrastructure and in-car digital video system from Trapeze Networks and Digital Ally, Inc. (Nasdaq: DGLY), Overland Park, KS. The system’s videos capture evidence, train officers and provides for superb resident safety.

"Trapeze Networks is pleased that its solutions give the ability for the CPD to instantly transmit in-car surveillance videos which, in turn, contribute significantly to improving the city’s violent crime rate and citizen satisfaction with the police force," said Trapeze President Dhrupad Trivedi. "The robust feature set in the Trapeze Networks solutions guarantees the CPD’s wireless network has the highest levels of dependability and security needed to safely transfer the important video surveillance files."

The CPD is utilizing Digital Ally’s DMV-500Plus In-car Video Systems which are fully integrated into replacement rear-view mirrors in its entire fleet of patrol cars to maximize ease-of-operation and use of space. The Trapeze Networks wireless network at CPD’s station provides a simplified way to quickly transfer very-large video files from the patrol cars to the station’s server. This ensures the video evidence remains untouched and, therefore, untainted. Instead of manually downloading the video files, the CPD now records each police stop and automatically sends the video file wirelessly, saving staff time and ensuring compliance with court evidence requirements. The videos are also used as police officer training tools.

"The citizen complaint rate has dropped significantly since we installed the wireless network and cameras," said Criss Hudson, Captain, Clarkston Police Department. "The officers love the new wireless video system that Trapeze and Digital Ally provide because it helps them improve their performance by studying the videos of their stops. Improving the validity of the evidence videos has strengthened the CPD cases, resulting in additional criminal prosecutions."

Ken McCoy, Digital Ally’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said, "With the easy-to-deploy Digital Ally in-car video systems running over the scaleable wireless network, the CPD will be able to quickly and easily equip new patrol cars as they are added to its fleet. Our application works with many wireless infrastructure solutions but we prefer Trapeze in this case because of its reliability."

The CPD’s two technology suppliers recommended the combined Trapeze Networks and Digital Ally solution and installed the wireless solution to CPD’s specifications. Integrated Technology Systems (ITS) http://www.itssales.com, Winder, GA, specializes in cutting-edge technology products and solutions primarily utilized within the public safety community. Ansley Communications Group http://www.ansleycomm.com is a full-service communications technology provider based in northeast Georgia. After field tests with wireless LAN infrastructure solutions from leading vendors, the main reasons the CPD selected Trapeze Networks was because it offered unmatched reliability and was the sole solution to effectively load balance multiple video downloads. Together ITS and Ansley Communications Group quickly got the CPD up and running with the Trapeze Networks wireless system along with Digital Ally digital video systems in the rear-view mirrors of all the departments’ police cars.

Digital Ally Enters Law Enforcement Speed Detection Market With Laser Ally Handheld Speed Detection LIDAR System

Only LIDAR System Detectors Could Neither Detect Nor Jam In Third-Party Test

Digital Ally, Inc. (Nasdaq: DGLY), which develops, manufactures and markets advanced video surveillance products for law enforcement, homeland security and commercial security applications, today announced the planned introduction of its new handheld Laser Ally LIDAR System for vehicle speed detection.

“LIDAR systems have been used in the law enforcement industry for a number of years, and the technology is recognized and accepted by courts as an accurate means of detecting vehicle speed,” stated Ken McCoy, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Digital Ally, Inc. “Our team has years of LIDAR and RADAR experience, allowing us to introduce our new Laser Ally with knowledgeable representatives, supported by Digital Ally’s brand name and excellent reputation for quality customer service.”

The company has already received initial customer orders and has responded to numerous requests for “test and evaluation” units from law enforcement agencies. Often referred to as “laser”, LIDAR is an acronym for LIght Detection And Ranging, a technology that allows police and other law enforcement officers to pinpoint the speed and direction of a vehicle in single or mutli-lane traffic. LIDAR speed detection systems differ from RADAR systems by using light waves, instead of radio waves, to measure speed. LIDAR systems also have a much narrower beam, which allows the operator to accurately identify a speeding vehicle in highly congested traffic.

“We are pleased that law enforcement agencies have responded to the introduction of our new, feature-rich Laser Ally LIDAR System with considerable enthusiasm,” stated Stanton E. Ross, Chief Executive Officer of Digital Ally, Inc. “This is evident in the fact that we have begun receiving orders for the new speed detection device less than two months following its initial product launch. We have also received favorable preliminary test results from several law enforcement agencies, including a large Sheriff’s Department and a State Highway Patrol agency. Last week, the Laser Ally system was involved in a third-party test against the leading LIDAR systems and LIDAR ‘jammers’, and our LIDAR system was the only one that the LIDAR detectors could neither detect nor jam. We believe the ability of Laser Ally to read vehicle speeds even when cars are equipped with LIDAR ‘jammers’ represents a significant competitive advantage for Digital Ally in the marketplace.”

Laser Ally is small, lightweight and well balanced, and can detect vehicle speed and direction in only 1/3 of a second. Laser Ally also features an impressive, extended range, even when operating through the windshield of a vehicle, allowing officers to remain in the comfort of their patrol cars. It reads through obstructions like branches or glass, congested traffic, adverse weather, and was the only LIDAR not detected or jammed in a recent third-party test against the leading LIDAR systems and LIDAR jammers. The system is user-friendly, waterproof, impact resistant, and features accuracy locking and internal accuracy tests, improved alignment stability, true continuous tracking with audio, up to a 32-hour battery life from 2 C-cell batteries, a True Color 1:1 Head-Up Display for accurate vehicle identification and to alleviate eye strain, and the unit is upgradable in the field via a USB port.

Laser Ally was listed on the July 30, 2010 International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conforming Product List (CPL) for enforcement-technology equipment. This equipment is intended for use in highway-safety programs and found to be both accurate and reliable when properly operated and maintained. IACP recommends that law-enforcement agencies use this CPL as one of its criteria when purchasing enforcement-technology equipment.
